Moving companies usually get customers in four ways: referrals and repeat customers, organic search and Google Business Profile, paid ads, and lead vendors. The first two are the most profitable and the hardest to scale. The last two are easy to scale, and they get more expensive every year.
Prospect data adds a fifth way: reach people before they start shopping.
Shared leads vs exclusive leads vs prospect data
| Shared leads (lead vendors) | Exclusive leads | Prospect data (MoverPhone) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who is it | Someone who requested quotes | Someone who requested a quote from you only | Someone likely to move who hasn’t asked for quotes yet |
| Competition | Often several movers at once | None at the moment of the request | Low; you’re early |
| Pricing | Pay per lead | Higher pay per lead | 100 to 500 a month in your MoverPhone plan, plus optional lead packs |
| What wins it | Speed: first to call usually books | Fast, professional follow-up | Persistent outreach and a good opener |
| Main risk | Paying for leads several competitors are calling | Volume is limited | Lower intent; needs a good calling process |
None of these is “best”. The point is to stop depending on one source. Most movers who use prospect data keep their best lead source and use prospect lists to keep reps busy in slower weeks and the off-season.
How it works in MoverPhone
- Pick your service area: states, cities or ZIP codes.
- Filter to the moves you want, such as local versus long-distance markets.
- DNC scrubbing runs automatically before anything is dialed.
- Load the list into the dialer. Reps work it with power or parallel dialing, local caller ID and voicemail drop.
- Calls and outcomes sync to your CRM, so a prospect who books becomes a normal lead in SmartMoving, Supermove or whichever CRM you use.
- Callbacks come back to the AI. When a prospect returns your call at 8pm, the AI receptionist answers, qualifies and books the estimate.
Calling prospects well
Prospect calls work when they’re helpful, short and local:
- Open with relevance, not a pitch: “Hi, this is Sam with Acme Moving here in Plano. We help a lot of families around your area. Are you planning a move this season?”
- Offer something useful: a free virtual estimate, date availability before peak season fills up, or a packing checklist.
- Respect a no. Mark them, add them to your internal Do Not Call list if they ask, and move on.
- Follow up by text when someone says “maybe later”, and set a reminder near their likely move window.
Compliance
Calling consumers for marketing is regulated under the TCPA, the Telemarketing Sales Rule and state “mini-TCPA” laws. MoverPhone scrubs against the National Do Not Call Registry, honors internal DNC lists and restricts calls to permitted hours in the recipient’s time zone. Autodialed calls to cell phones, and calls that use an artificial or AI voice, carry consent requirements. Talk to counsel about how you use prospect data. This page isn’t legal advice.
Pricing
Every plan comes with moving leads: 100 a month on Starter ($99 per user), 300 on Scale ($299 per user) and 500 on Pro ($499 per user). Need more? Add lead packs, or buy leads only in the ZIP codes and areas you service. Outbound teams typically choose Scale ($299 a month, parallel dialing up to 2x) or Pro ($499 a month, up to 4x). Frequently asked questions
How is prospect data different from buying moving leads?
A purchased moving lead is a person who filled out a quote form, and lead vendors often sell that same lead to several movers. Prospect data is a list of people likely to move who haven't requested quotes yet. There's less competition per contact, but your reps have to start the conversation.
Which areas does the data cover?
All 50 states. You choose the states, cities and ZIP codes you serve, and MoverPhone loads matching prospects into your dialer.
Is calling moving prospects legal?
Telemarketing to consumers is regulated by the TCPA, the Telemarketing Sales Rule and state laws. MoverPhone scrubs lists against Do Not Call and enforces calling hours by time zone. Autodialed calls to cell phones and AI-voice calls have consent requirements, so review your outbound process with counsel. This isn't legal advice.
Do I still need a lead vendor?
Many movers keep one lead source and add prospect data to fill gaps, especially in the off-season. Track booked jobs and cost per booked job by source, and keep whichever performs.
